International Manufacturing Corporation

Problem

eTERA assisted with forensic collection for an internal investigation around accounting practices. After noticing irregularities, the client self-reported and lost filing privileges with the Securities and Exchange Commission. An SEC investigation and subsequent FCPA investigation ensued.

Solution

eTERA provided forensic analysts in the U.S, as well as in three other countries in South America and Europe, who were able to image the workstations of more than 75 key custodians and further provide forensic analysis of 20 custodians.

Result

eTERA data management experts streamlined the forensics process during the internal review and SEC investigation.   eTERA helped the corporation develop policies and procedures for data management on desktops, network shares and email servers.

Problem

Faced with a court-imposed deadline, the client needed to process terabytes of data very quickly, while also allowing time for outside counsel to review different aspects of the same data set.

Solution

eTERA sampled the data to determine the best approach for filtering. eTERA provided a single-use repository in which all of the counsel could run searches on the data and receive different production sets, depending on their specific need. In less than a month, eTERA was able to process more than five terabytes of information and provide specific and different load files for each outside counsel without processing the same data multiple times.

Result

Through eTERA’s intelligent use of technology, the client met their tight deadline, provided all the necessary data to the outside counsel, and saved $2.4 million by using data sampling and repurposing.

Am Law 100/World Leader in Specialty Materials

Problem

The client was tasked with reviewing – hundreds of thousands of documents in a short time period. To add to the challenge, the client needed to compare the new collection against previously produced data and categorize the documents into easily digestible reports.

Solution

Through the Intell1gent One process and reporting, eTERA helped the client analyze, identify, cluster, and review only relevant data that had not been previously produced. eTERA streamlined the analysis by using predictive coding, helping the client quickly process thousands of documents.

Result

eTERA helped the client easily identify the relevant data early in the process, increase the reviewer’s rate from 50 to 110 documents per hour, and reduce review time from five weeks to five days with reported savings of over $100,000.

Major Healthcare Provider

Major Healthcare Provider

Problem

The client needed to take a large volume of data, over 1,000,000 documents, from collection through production to opposing counsel in only two weeks.

Solution

Using Intell1gent One data analytics, eTERA provided real time information that allowed the client to eliminate significant data before processing even began. eTERA’s search specialists immediately identified priority custodians, ensured legally defensible filtering techniques and helped the client make real time data reduction decisions.

Result

eTERA's early data analytics reporting helped the client reduce unnecessary data, saving both time and money and conquering more than 1,000,000 documents in less than two weeks, using less than the anticipated 40 contract attorneys. eTERA completed productions on time with detailed reports, allowing the client to make educated changes to production deadlines while saving significant time and money.

Large Healthcare Company

Problem

eTERA Europe was tasked with conducting an internal investigation of an international healthcare corporation as a key step in mitigating potential compliance failings, garnering leniency from government agencies and debunking corruption allegations. The investigation involved three locations in two EU jurisdictions. The project had a number of communication issues, non-responsive documents and needed to be completed in significantly less time than originally allocated.

Solution

eTERA proposed the creation of a share drive on the law firm network. The team created a ‘frequently asked questions’ document that was accessible to the review team, enhancing and clarifying communications.

In addition, the eTERA team created a template to better recognize non-responsive documents. That template streamlined the process, allowing eTERA to establish better procedures to minimize the time spent on non-responsive documents.

Result

By the end of the project, communication issues had been fixed and the teams were able to function seamlessly. There was a log of problematic documents and the client had solid procedures in place for the future. Although the timeline was compressed, the eTERA team met the deadline and completed the review.
